The 27-by-40-inch T-slotted table has a precision miter gauge and two cast-iron extension wings, giving you more room to work. For easier access to belts and the fan-cooled motor, this saw is totally enclosed with a hinged steel cover. The reinforced steel cabinet features a built-in slanted floor leading toward the 4-inch steel dust port. Amazon.com While this JET saw beats its closest competitor on price, it also offers some advantages in terms of design and construction. Placing the quick-connect electrical plug right at the saw so the user doesn't have to search out the wall socket for every blade change is just one small example of JET's attention to detail. The stand for this saw is made of a heavy-gauge metal, and features a hinged motor cover and a 4- inch dust port for easy connection to a dust-collection system. A change in the hole pattern on the fence rails means lefties can shift the set up to their preference. The left-tilting arbor is another mark in this saw's favor. Tilting the blade away from the fence negates the need for a sacrificial fence and reduces the risk of the piece binding under the blade. This saw's most impressive feature is the smooth action of the blade height-adjustment mechanism. Not only will users save their wrists and knuckles, but they'll also save time by being able to crank the blade to the exact height necessary with vastly fewer test runs for every rabbet, dado, tongue, and groove. Finally, we really appreciate JET's use of totally enclosed fan-cooled motors on this and every other saw the company makes.
